I created this chipin widget for my iphone on the 25th October, exactly38 days ago.

In that time there has been much micropatronage discussion,most of which is captured in an epic blog post by Zaanaand the comments that follow.

The tension seems not-so-much aroundmicropatronage as a model, but more so around my application of it; to support buying an iphone.

38 days on- this is what it looks like:

• 28% of total amount raised.
• $245 raised, $611 to go.
• 15 contributors in total.
• Highest contribution = $30.
• Lowest contribution = $5.
• Average contribution = $16.333.

What could happen next:

Visitors to my blog:

Googleanalytics tells me that my blog has had 1093 hits (on average 27.32 /day) between the 25th October & today. 640 of those visitors areabsolute unique visitors. On average, people spend 15:35min on here,which suggests a high level of engagement. 640 visitors, minus 15(assuming the 15 people that have already contributed have visited myblog), is 625.

625 people @ 98 cents = $611

Twitter followers:

I have 526followers on twitter. 526 followers, minus 15 (assuming the 15 peoplethat have already contributed follow me), is 511.

511 people @ $2 each =$611

Facebook friends:

I have 884 friends on facebook. 884 friends, minus15 (assuming the15 people that have already contributed are friends),is 869.

869 people @ 70 cents each = $611

The average drops to $5:

If theaverage contribution dropped to $5 and the amount needed to reach thetotal is $611. 123 more people would need to contribute.

What I can't wait for:

To be able to tell people that the worldbought me an iphone.

I have recently left my full time job to pursue work that I love.

See, I have a driving passion and belief in the concept that we should all do work we love.

Having worked for 5+ years in recruitment, HR & management consultancy, I saw far too many people that hated their work.

We spend 80% of our lives at work, and it frustrates me that people persist in jobs, in companies, in career directions that they don't love.

I have spent a lot of my time researching and developing ideas around empowering people to firstly, identify what is the work that they love and secondly, to start doing work they love today.

At the moment I am looking at the internet and specifically social media as a tool to distribute my ideas, knowledge and thoughts in this space.

To me, an iphone is essential part of me spreading this message, an iphone is a tool required for me to access social media channels that will amplify my message and encourage and influence people to do work they love.

My goal is to help people, in return, I am asking for a little help from others.

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to attend an amazing event called Trampoline, which in summary was a space that was created for the meeting of great minds and passion, where people we encourage to share ideas & develop thoughts.

In a 5min "lighting talk" toward to end of the day Ross Hill discussed his concept of micropatronage, which is pretty much a really cool way for us to fund each other to do really cool stuff.

I have borrowed Ross's idea to raise funds for my much-needed iphone.
